This is classic. When being told anything other than "yes," there's a leap to "no," and what follows is accusations of being "shut out," and "excluded," when it's just really a reaction to not being in control the way they want. It's part of an entitlement attitude that stunts collaboration. They begin to interpret your actions as hostile when all you did was say wait, or not yet.
