I love this article because it’s busts some myths, relays some hurdles and gets a bit more reality intertwined with the dream of AI. But I’m so curious as to why people zoom in on the AI=Without Human equation. That’s such a narrow-minded and binary and limited way to think of AI. It also sets up some pretty false expectations about the current capabilities of this newest technology. Yes Google, Facebook and Amazon are using AI prolifically but they still have to hire an entire team of PhDs just to train a system to read a sentence. The fact is computers are dumb, they’re a lot smarter than they used to be but still dumb. But they’re fast. And we should find uses for AI that fits their capability and not go outside their lane. We have a saying “Computers make great servants but are terrible masters.” Let’s stop trying to replace humans and start maximizing machine capabilities within the right purview.
